Barr dankt zijn rijkdom aan de bossen, de wijngaarden en aan het toerisme dat er langzaam terrein wint. Net als Obernai ligt het op de 180 km lange Route des Vins dAlsace, die Marlenheim in het noorden met Thann in het zuiden verbindt, aan de voet van de heuvels van de Kirchberg en de Altenberg. Barr is het wijncentrum van de Bas-Rhin waar de beroemde Grand Cru du Kirchberg wordt verbouwd. Kijk ook eens rond op het centrale Place de lHôtel de Ville. Het zeventiende-eeuwse renaissancestadhuis en de vakwerkhuizen, zoals de zestiende-eeuwse Auberge Le Brochet, hebben hun authentieke karakter weten te bewaren.
