Villefranche-de-Rouergue is een kleine provincieplaats in Frankrijk. Het is een sous-préfecture van het departement Aveyron. De gemeente telde 11.602 inwoners op 1 januari 2019. Zij is gelegen aan de oever van de rivier de Aveyron.Aan het eind van de kruistocht tegen de Albigenzen werd de graaf van Toulouse verslagen. In het verdrag van Parijs uit 1229 gaf hij het graafschap Rouergue aan zijn dochter. Zij zou trouwen met Alphonse van Toulouse, een broer van koning Lodewijk IX van Frankrijk. Alphonse stichtte in 1252 Villefranche op de plaats van een ouder dorp, dat La Peyrade heette.
