De Barrage de Marèges, ofwel de Marèges-dam, is een van de belangrijkste mijlpalen in de dammenbouw.
Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog werd duidelijk hoe afhankelijk de Fransen waren van steenkool uit het buitenland voor hun energievoorziening. De Barrage de Marèges was een project om een deel van die afhankelijkheid op te lossen. Het werd in 1935 ingehuldigd.
Om de dam te bouwen, moesten ze eerst twee andere dammen aanleggen. Eén om de rivier af te leiden vóór de huidige dam, en één om te voorkomen dat het afgeleide water terugstroomde. De twee tijdelijke dammen maakten het mogelijk om de dam op een droge plek te bouwen.
