Het meest opvallende graf in Les Invalides is dat van Napoleon Bonaparte. Napoleon werd aanvankelijk begraven op Sint-Helena, maar koning Louis-Philippe zorgde er voor dat zijn stoffelijke resten werden overgebracht naar Frankrijk in 1840, een gebeurtenis bekend als Le retour des cendres. Napoleon's as werd eerst begraven in de Chapelle Saint-Jerôme in Les Invalides tot hij hier zijn laatste rustplaats kreeg in dit praalgraf. Het graf is gemaakt van rode kwartsiet en rust op een groen granieten basis. Het praalgraf werd voltooid in 1861.
