In deze kathedraal werd een magische ampulla bewaard. Volgens de grondleggende mythe van Frankrijk, leverde de Heilige Geest in de vorm van een duif een ampulla vol met heilige olie voor de doop van koning Clovis, stichter van het Frankische koninkrijk. U kunt dat zien op de illustratie van de Grand Chroniques de France, c. 1380 (zie afbeelding). Alle volgende koningen werden gezalfd met de goddelijke olie bij hun kroning. De lege ampul vulde spontaan bij met olie voor elke kroning. Dit mirakel gaf aan dat God zelf de koning koos. Als God niet had gewild dat deze mensen koning zouden zijn, zou de ampul niet zijn bijgevuld.
