Het treinongeluk van Versailles op 8 mei 1842 bij Meudon behoort tot de zwaarste rampen in de spoorweggeschiedenis van de 19e eeuw. Na een asbreuk aan de locomotief van een reizigerstrein duwden de tweede locomotief en de daaropvolgende rijtuigen over de gebroken ketel en vingen vlam. Ten minste 50 mensen verloren het leven.
