De kerk van Sint Maarten staat op de plaats van het oude gebouw dat in 1917 werd opgeblazen. Bij het opstellen van het bestemmingsplan koos de jury voor het behoud van de locatie om de continuïteit van de geschiedenis van de stad te waarborgen en de herkenningspunten van de vroegere bewoners niet te verstoren ; Twee decoratieve elementen op het hoofdportaal, gemaakt door de beeldhouwer Jaques: de verwoeste kerk en de herbouwde kerk. De Sint Maarten uit de oude kerk hangt boven de deur van de huidige sacristie in de Rue des Moinets. De coöperatieve vereniging voor verwoeste kerken selecteerde het project van de architect Regis Jardel tijdens de prijsvraag van 1922. Het werd ingewijd op 30 januari 1927.
