De beruchte Slag om Loos was een Brists offensief van 25 september-8 oktober 1915. Men wou de vastgelopen oorlog weer in beweging krijgen. Ze wonnen slechts enkele kilometer terrein, en 86.000 soldaten werden de dood ingejaagd. In deze slag werd door de Britten de eerste keer gifgas gebruikt. Heel wat gifgas (chloorgas) dreef af naar de eigen linies.
