Les Eyzies, de wereldhoofdstad van de prehistorie, is een klein dorpje in de Périgord Noir in het hart van de Vézère-vallei in de Dordogne, vlakbij de grot van Lascaux en Sarlat.
Het is hier dat de prehistorie als wetenschap is opgebouwd en geïllustreerd door de namen van Peyrony, Lartet, Capitan, Abbés Breuil en Glory; hier is de Cro-Magnon Mens ontdekt; hier zijn de wereldwonderen van de grotkunst te vinden, waaronder de laatste polychroom versierde grot die open is voor het publiek: Font de Gaume.
In Les Eyzies is het Nationaal Prehistorisch Museum gevestigd, een absolute referentie voor het Boven-Paleolithicum, waarvan de collecties grotendeels afkomstig zijn van de vindplaatsen en afzettingen in de vallei van de Vézère. U ontdekt ook de Pôle International de la Préhistoire en de Cro-Magnon schuilplaats in het hart van het dorp.
