De Porte d'Amont, gebouwd in 1629 en gerestaureerd in 1870, is de enige overgebleven poort van de stadswallen van Meung-sur-Loire. Het was de hoofdpoort, de erepoort, want het diende als ontmoetingsplaats voor de schepenen. Het stelde de inwoners ook in staat zichzelf te beschermen en de stad te verdedigen.
