Gélaucourt is een typisch Lotharingse dorp, verloren in het midden van een glooiend groen landschap. Het heeft in de loop van zijn geschiedenis veel ups en downs gekend: de verwoesting van de kerk in 1899, waarvan de klokkentoren werd herplaatst op het dak van het stadhuis. Het is zelfs bijna verdwenen in de jaren na de laatste oorlog, een slachtoffer van de plattelandsvlucht. Onder de energieke leiding van een plaatselijke jongen, die burgemeester werd, is Gélaucourt geleidelijk aan uit zijn ruïnes herrezen, opgeruimd en nieuw leven ingeblazen: het resultaat zal u verrassen en verrukken. Het decor van het dorp is gebaseerd op imposante bomen, fruitbomen, struiken, vaste planten, eenjarigen maar ook groenten, waaronder veel kleurrijke en verrassend gevormde cucurbitaceae.
