Het bestaan van een kapel in het centrum van het dorp wordt vermeld rond 1775. In die tijd werd er geen mis opgedragen, maar werd er regelmatig de rozenkrans gebeden. Dit oratorium was gewijd aan de heilige Jozef. Het was waarschijnlijk niet het eerste heiligdom in het dorp. Aangezien de kartuizermonniken sinds de 15e eeuw het beheer hadden over de grond in het dorp, werden zij gedwongen om hun bedienden religieuze diensten aan te bieden en er een oratorium te bouwen.
