Het werd in 1870 gebouwd op de linkeroever van de Midouze, aan de samenvloeiing, en is het meest zichtbare en bekendste washuis van de stad. Het was een architect uit de stad, de heer Forignan, die de plannen ontwierp voor dit washuis, dat de vorm heeft van een halve ellips en aan de voorkant tien arcades heeft die ondersteund worden door stenen pilaren.
