Het staatsbos van Betplan en het bos van Massecap liggen ten zuidwesten van Miélan op de grens met het departement Hautes-Pyrénées. Deze situatie maakt het tot een van de belangrijkste bosgebieden qua oppervlakte, met een ruig reliëf en een zeer uitgesproken berginvloed.
Het is een van de mooiste beukenbossen van het departement
Deze rijkdom is dus sterk verbonden met de duurzaamheid van de beukenstand en de handhaving van bosbouwpraktijken die de biodiversiteit respecteren.
