In 1801 werd Lord Byron naar de Harrow School gestuurd, waar hij bleef tot juli 1805. Byron weigerde in september 1803 terug te keren naar Harrow vanwege zijn liefde voor Mary Chaworth. In de latere memoires van Byron wordt "Mary Chaworth afgeschilderd als het eerste object van zijn volwassen seksuele gevoelens." Later had hij seksueel openlijke relaties met enkele (mannelijke) vrienden. Harrow School omvat een lange rij beroemde alumni, zoals acht voormalige premiers (met name Winston Churchill en Jawaharlal Nehru, een Indiase onafhankelijkheidsactivist en vervolgens de eerste premier van India ).
