Het graafschap Hampshire, aan de zuidkust van Engeland, ontvangt vooral dagtoeristen, maar nu jaarlijks ook vijf miljoen verblijfstoeristen. Dat is minder dan voor covid, en vorig jaar daalde het aantal opnieuw. Misschien is dit dus het moment om te genieten van de vele nationale parken, zoals het New Forest National Park, de Tudor-architectuur en steden als Winchester en Portsmouth.
Dé lokvogel voor 2025 is de 250ste geboorteviering van auteur Jane Austen, die hier leefde en ook boeken als Pride and prejudice en Sense and sensibility liet afspelen. Haar geboortehuis in Chawton is een museum, en in Winchester, Basingstoke en Southampton zijn deze zomer speciale tentoonstellingen te zien. In vergelijking met de overbezochte nabije steden Londen en Bath laat Hampshire toe om rustiger te genieten van een mix van erfgoed, natuurschoon en kunst.
