In 2011 besloeg de parochie een groot gebied, voornamelijk ten westen van de stad Ellesmere. Deze plattelandsparochie bestaat uit landbouwgrond en een aantal kleine nederzettingen, waaronder Dudleston Heath, Dudleston, Tetchill en Welsh Frankton.
Ellesmere Rural werd opgericht in 1894, toen de burgerlijke functies van de grotere oude parochie van Ellesmere werden afgeschaft en verdeeld tussen deze parochie en de stad Ellesmere, die een aparte burgerlijke parochie werd, genaamd Ellesmere Urban. Ondanks verschillende wijzigingen in de parochiegrenzen gedurende de twintigste eeuw is de parochiebevolking sinds de jaren dertig relatief stabiel gebleven.
