Nel 2011 la parrocchia copriva un'ampia area, principalmente a ovest della città di Ellesmere. Questa parrocchia rurale consiste in terre agricole e in un numero di piccoli insediamenti tra cui Dudleston Heath, Dudleston, Tetchill e Welsh Frankton.
Ellesmere Rural è stata creata nel 1894 quando le funzioni civili della più grande antica parrocchia di Ellesmere furono abolite e suddivise tra questa parrocchia e la città di Ellesmere, che divenne una parrocchia civile separata chiamata Ellesmere Urban. Nonostante diversi cambiamenti nei confini della parrocchia durante il ventesimo secolo, la popolazione della parrocchia è rimasta relativamente stabile dagli anni '30.
