Ken je het vreemde verhaal van Alan Turing dat nog steeds tot schatzoektochten aanzet.
Turing liet zijn spaargeld omzetten in zilver en begroef het in 1940 in een bos, uit vrees voor een Duitse invasie, maar het exacte bos is niet met zekerheid bekend. In 1940 kocht Turing twee grote zilverbaren (ongeveer 90 kg in totaal) en begroef die in een klein bos nabij Bletchley Park om zijn spaargeld te beschermen als Duitsland Groot‑Brittannië zou binnenvallen. Hij maakte gecodeerde aanwijzingen voor de plek, maar vond de zilverstaven na de oorlog zelf nooit meer terug, ondanks meerdere zoekpogingen met een metaaldetector. Bronnen spreken consequent over “woods near Bletchley Park” of “a small wood nearby”.
