Het beroemde schilderij De Slag bij Marciano van Giorgio Vasari (ook bekend als de Slag bij Scannagallo) is te zien in het Palazzo Vechio. De Slag bij Marciano vond plaats op het platteland van Marciano della Chiana, nabij Arezzo, Toscane, op 2 augustus 1554, tijdens de Italiaanse Oorlog van 1551. De slag markeerde de nederlaag van de Republiek Siena in haar oorlog tegen het hertogdom Florence en leidde ertoe dat Siena haar onafhankelijkheid verloor en werd opgenomen in het Groothertogdom Toscane.
Het schilderij speelt ook een belangrijke rol in het boek Inferno van Dan Brown.
