Onder aan de helling van de Corso Mazzini vind je de Basilica di Santa Chiara. Hier ligt Clara begraven, de gezel van Franciscus. Clara stichtte bovendien de orde der clarissen. In de basiliek, meer bepaald in een van de kapellen, kan je het beroemde crucifix bewonderen. Dit boog zich naar verluidt voorover om Franciscus te vertellen dat hij de Kerk van God moest herstellen.
