Op 28 november 1655 presenteerde Bologna een gigantisch schouwspel voor koningin Christina van Zweden, die hier haar reis naar Rome onderbrak. Op de Piazza Maggiore, vanaf het Palazzo d'Accursio aan de westkant tot aan de vismarkt (nu de Via Pecherie Vecchie) aan de oostkant, werd een tijdelijk theater gebouwd in de vorm van een enorm schip. In een allegorisch toneelstuk werd de glorie van de stad gevierd. De show werd afgesloten met een toernooi in klassieke Romeinse stijl.
