De Grevelingen is een voormalige zeearm van de Noordzee, gelegen tussen de eilanden Goeree-Overflakkee en Schouwen-Duiveland, op de grens van de provincies Zuid-Holland en Zeeland. In het kader van de Deltawerken werd de zeearm, het Brouwershavense gat, door de Grevelingendam en de Brouwersdam van zee afgesloten. Na de afsluiting werd het Grevelingenmeer het grootste zoutwatermeer van West-Europa. Aanvankelijk was het de bedoeling, om er een zoetwatermeer van te maken door inlaat van Rijnwater, maar dat was in de jaren 70 zo vervuild, dat ervan werd afgezien.
