Oud-Vossemeer, de stamvader van Roosevelt Oud-Vossemeer heeft nauwe banden met een bekende presidentsfamilie uit de Verenigde Staten, namelijk het geslacht Roosevelt. In het begin van de 17e eeuw emigreerde de stamvader van het geslacht Roosevelt vanuit Oud-Vossemeer naar Nieuw-Nederland (New York). Het Wapenschild van de familie Roosevelt hangt in het Ambachtsherenhuis. Op het hoogste punt van het dorp is de Nederlands Hervormde kerk gebouwd. Voor de kerk staat een monument, dat de 4 vrijheden aangeeft. De dorpssmid Johannes Verkerke maakte in de 18e eeuw een smidsklokje, dat nog steeds aan de gevel van de voormalige smidse in de Voorstraat te zien is.
