De Borkeld is een fraai heidereservaat dat ligt tussen Holten, Rijssen en Markelo. Het is ondanks het feit dat de A1 dwars door het gebied is aangelegd nog steeds een waardevol en afwisselend natuurgebied. Het uitzicht vanaf de Friezenberg, de gerestaureerde grafheuvels en de enorme heidevelden zijn absoluut de moeite waard.
Bijzonder in het gebied zijn ook de vele cultuurhistorische overblijfselen. De Borkeld is niet alleen natuurreservaat, maar ook geologisch reservaat. Er liggen enkele tientallen grafheuvels. Deze dateren van voor onze jaartelling. Waarschijnlijk liepen hier al meer dan 10.000 jaar geleden de eerste bewoners rond.
