The Borkeld is a beautiful heath reserve that lies between Holten, Rijssen and Markelo. Despite the fact that the A1 has been built right through the area, it is still a valuable and varied nature reserve. The view from the Friezenberg, the restored burial mounds and the enormous moors are absolutely worth it.
Special in the area are also the many cultural-historical remains. The Borkeld is not only a nature reserve, but also a geological reserve. There are several dozen burial mounds. These predate our era. The first inhabitants probably walked here more than 10,000 years ago.
