Wie je in het verleden duikt, zul je snel merken dat er veel statige kastelen en landgoederen in de Achterhoek zijn. De meeste kastelen zijn niet alleen van buiten, maar ook van binnen te bezichtigen. De meeste tuinen zijn ook toegankelijk en grote oppervlakken. Kortom, een bezoek aan een of meerdere kastelen. Dit kan via de fiets "8 Kastelenroute" die begint in Vorden of Ruurlo. Kasteel Vorden werd aan het begin van de veertiende eeuw als een militaire structuur gebouwd, maar kwam uiteindelijk, net als zoveel kastelen, in handen van adelsfamilies. Na het kasteel na de Tweede Wereldoorlog viel het kasteel nu in particulier bezit. Loop door het kasteel, je kunt de structuur van redelijk dichtbij bewonderen. Extra leuk is dat Kasteel Vorden ook voor bezoekers geopend is.
