Het Groene Hart is grotendeels een laagveenlandschap met droogmakerijen. Bijgevolg tref je er vele veenplassen, moerasgronden en hooilanden aan. De veenplassen en de afwisslenede stroken water en land, of het legakker-petgaten duo, zijn relikten van de turfafgraving. Maar wist je dat deze regio zwaar aan het inzakken is. Tot 2100 zou dit gebied maar liefst 84 cm zakken.
