De omwalling rond Muiden is aangelegd in 1577 en diende ter afsluiting van de (voormalige) Zeedijk en de trekvaart van Naarden. In 1877-1879 is de vesting Muiden met het welbekende Muiderslot gemoderniseerd door de opname bij de Stelling van Amsterdam.
