Almelo ) is een stad en gemeente in de regio Twente in de Nederlandse provincie Overijssel. De gemeente telt 73.175 inwoners en heeft een totale oppervlakte van 69,41 km², waarvan 67,27 km² land en 2,14 km² water .De gemeente Almelo is ontstaan uit een fusie tussen de gemeenten Ambt Almelo en Stad Almelo. Behalve de stad Almelo omvat de gemeente de kernen Aadorp, Bornerbroek en Mariaparochie . De gemeente Almelo maakt deel uit van de Regio Twente. Een deel van de Almeloërs spreekt Twents, een Nedersaksisch dialect.
