Het Wertheimpark is het oudste park van Amsterdam. Het werd in 1812 door Napoleon aan de stad geschonken (op kosten van de stad). Twee witmarmeren sfinxen met lantaarns markeren de ingang. Het park werd vernoemd naar de Joodse weldoener Abraham Wertheim. Na de oorlog werd de naam van het park van Parktuin gewijzigd in de huidige naam. Een fontein met een plaquette met portret van Wertheim herinnert aan de weldoener.
Al in 1682 werd er besloten om de Plantage, zoals deze wijk genoemd wordt, tot groengebied te bestemmen. Vanwege de oorlog van 1672 en een pestuitbraak was de vraag naar woningen afgenomen. Daarom vind je hier zoveel groen (Artis, de Hortus en dit park).
Loop door de ingang naar rechts naar het monument Gebroken Spiegels van Jan Wolkers. Jaarlijks vindt hier de Nationale Holocaust herdenking plaats. “Nooit meer Auschwitz” staat op het monument.
