Der Wertheimpark ist der älteste Park Amsterdams. Er wurde 1812 von Napoleon der Stadt geschenkt (auf Kosten der Stadt). Zwei weißmarmorene Sphinxen mit Laternen markieren den Eingang. Der Park wurde nach dem jüdischen Wohltäter Abraham Wertheim benannt. Nach dem Krieg wurde der Name des Parks von Parktuin in den heutigen Namen geändert. Ein Brunnen mit einer Plakette mit dem Porträt von Wertheim erinnert an den Wohltäter.
Bereits 1682 wurde beschlossen, die Plantage, wie dieser Stadtteil genannt wird, als Grünfläche zu bestimmen. Aufgrund des Krieges von 1672 und eines Pestausbruchs war die Nachfrage nach Wohnraum gesunken. Daher findest du hier so viel Grün (Artis, der Hortus und dieser Park).
Gehe durch den Eingang nach rechts zum Denkmal Gebrochene Spiegel von Jan Wolkers. Jährlich findet hier die nationale Holocaust-Gedenkfeier statt. „Nie wieder Auschwitz“ steht auf dem Denkmal.
