Het ligt ten westen van Drachten en ten noordoosten van Heerenveen. Langs het dorpsgebied lopen de Kromme Ee, het Grietmansrak en de Wijde Ee. Het dorp kent door deze ligging een jachthaven in de dorpskern. Verder kent het de waterlopen Vlierboschsloot, de Veenhoopstervaart, het Polderhoofdkanaal en het Kromme Gat.
