Het ligt in de Greidhoek ten noordwesten van Sneek en ten noordoosten van Bolsward, tussen Oosterend en Kubaard. De dorpskern ligt aan beide kanten van de Bolswardertrekvaart, ten oosten van de N359.In 2021 telde het dorp 2.370 inwoners. Onder het dorp valt ook buurtschap Westerlittens. In het zuiden van het dorpsgebied ligt de Zuidhoek, ontstaan uit verschillende terpen en boerenplaatsen.
