Het ligt ten noordoosten van Sneek en ten zuidoosten van Scharnegoutum. De dorpskern ligt aan de Hege Wier en de Aldfaertsdyk. Het is met een opvaart, de Kerksloot, verbonden met de Sneeker Oudvaart, dat ten zuiden stroomt van de dorpskern.In 2021 telde het dorp in de streek Lege Geaen 255 inwoners. Onder het dorp valt ook de buurtschap Goëngamieden en een deeltje van de buurtschap Speers.
