Gendringen is een plaats in de gemeente Oude IJsselstreek, gelegen in de Gelderse streek Achterhoek. Gendringen heeft circa 4.375 inwoners.Op 1 januari 1812 werd Etten als zelfstandige gemeente van Gendringen afgesplitst. Op 1 januari 1818 werd Etten weer bij Gendringen gevoegd. Op 1 januari 2005 fuseerde de gemeente Gendringen met de gemeente Wisch tot de nieuwe gemeente Oude IJsselstreek.
