De provincie Zuid-Holland heeft het gebied gebruikt als een proeftuin voor natuurbeheer. Er zijn moerasjes en poeltjes aangelegd, bosbegrazing toegepast en natuurlijke filters aangelegd, waardoor de waterkwaliteit verbetert. Een gedeelte van het Loetbos is uitgeroepen tot stiltegebied. Hierdoor kunnen planten en dieren zich verder ontwikkelen. Er leven veel verschillende dieren en (zeldzame) planten. Zo zijn de rietorchis, zonnedauw, zuring en koekoeksbloem er te vinden. In het vochtige gebied komen ook de moerasspirea, hop, gele lis en valeriaan voor. Ook de vogels hebben hun weg hiernaartoe gevonden. De zwartkop, de tuinfluiter en de grote bonte specht voelen zich hier goed thuis. Het Loetbos wordt beheerd door Groenalliantie Midden-Holland.
