De rivier de Linge is met 108 km de langste rivier van Nederland en is oorspronkelijk een zijarm van de Waal die rond 1200 bij Tiel werd afgedamd. Op dit punt is het de ‘Beneden Linge’ die vanaf Zoelen vanwege de natuurlijke waterloop een mooie meanderende rivier is. Op dit deel van de rivier is ook scheepvaart mogelijk. De ‘Boven Linge’ is een kunstmatig deel en wordt gevoed door een inlaatsluis bij Doornenburg vanuit het Pannerdensch Kanaal. Daardoor kunnen ook de vele fruittelers in de Betuwe van de juiste hoeveelheid water worden voorzien. De Linge eindigt bij Gorinchem in De Merwede.
