De Zee van Azov is een deel van de Zwarte Zee, dat aan de zuidkant van de rest van deze zee wordt gescheiden door de Straat van Kertsj, die sinds de annexatie van de Krim in 2014 de facto Russisch is.
Westelijk bevindt zich de Krim , noordelijk ligt Oekraïens grondgebied, en oostelijk Rusland. De oppervlakte bedraagt 37 555 km².
