De Library of Congress in Washington D.C. is de nationale bibliotheek van de Verenigde Staten en een van de belangrijkste bibliotheken ter wereld.
Formeel is de Library of Congress een agentschap van het Amerikaans Congres.
De Library of Congress werd in 1815 gesticht als de onderzoeksbibliotheek van het Amerikaans Congres. De boeken van de vroegere president Thomas Jefferson vormden het begin van de bibliotheek. Later kreeg de bibliotheek de rol van depot voor de auteursrechtelijke bescherming van werken. Wie in de Verenigde Staten zijn werk auteursrechtelijk wilde beschermen, moest twee exemplaren van zijn werk gratis bij de bibliotheek afgeven. Deze regeling is tegenwoordig niet meer van kracht.
