De rivier de Charles, plaatselijk bekend als de Charles River, is een kleine, betrekkelijk korte rivier in de staat Massachusetts in de Verenigde Staten van Amerika, die Boston van Cambridge en Charlestown scheidt.
De rivier wordt gevoed door ongeveer tachtig beekjes en verscheidene ondergrondse bronnen. De Charles meandert in grote bochten door het landschap over een afstand van ongeveer 130 km vanaf Echo Lake in Hopkinton , door 58 steden en dorpen in het oosten van Massachusetts, voor ze in de haven van Boston uitmondt. In verhouding tot de lengte van de rivier en het relatief grote afwateringsgebied van ongeveer 750 km², ligt de bron slechts 42 km van de monding van de rivier, en is het verval slechts 105 m. Het is het dichtstbevolkte rivierbekken van New England.
