Unique and truly exotic! Located directly at the Dutch border in the western Münsterland is the nature reserve Zwillbrocker Venn. The stars of the area are undoubtedly the flamingos, which are home to the northernmost colony in the world. However, those who look closely will discover much more in this unique natural space.
Water is the defining element in the Zwillbrocker Venn
The Zwillbrocker Venn is characterized by wet meadows, moor and heath landscapes, as well as shallow lakes. While peat was once extracted in the area, the depression gradually filled with water after the usage ended, creating a bird sanctuary of particular significance across Europe. The Venn acts like an oasis in an otherwise agriculturally used region. A place to breathe deeply.
