In all seasons, enjoying the Sprengenberg is a delight. If you come in May, you'll see the colors of azaleas and rhododendrons. The golden yellow grain sways in June and July over the fields. If you're lucky, you might spot a deer emerging from the grain. In August and September, the expansive heath fields are at their most beautiful, and you can enjoy the blooming heather.
The Sprengenberg is a rolling landscape with magnificent vistas. Here, you can wander for hours over the heath. From August onwards, it's extra enjoyable, as the heather is in bloom. Open your senses. First, you smell the scent of nectar. Then you hear bees buzzing. A little later, you hear the unmistakable bleating of a sheep.
Heathland is scarce in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, so are the plants and animals that live in the heath, such as the stonechat, nightjar, sand lizard, and slow-worm. Natuurmonumenten, together with Staatsbosbeheer, is doing everything possible to keep the heath healthy and to expand it. Thanks to provincial subsidies, we are fortunate to be able to do many wonderful things for nature in the Sallandse Heuvelrug.
