Wimereux - The Dunes of the Slack

Departure/parking: Office du Tourisme, Place Albert I in Wimereux.

IMPORTANT: the choice of whether to go through Les Dunes de la Slack first and back along the coast (as the walk is currently mapped) or vice versa can be determined by the tides. The beach path is ideal about 3 hours before low tide until 2 hours after low tide (this also varies with the tide index). If the sea is still too high, this walk is also perfectly possible but then involves a steep climb over a high beautiful dune. But with a phenomenally beautiful panorama as a reward.

Directions:
It is best to follow the walk "La Baie de Saint-Jean" in the northern direction towards Ambleteuse. Past the playground, you go up the stairs and follow the path as much as possible to the left to reach the football field. From there, via the GR120 du Littoral to La Pointe aux Oies. Here you follow the yellow signposts to the right (or left if you want to do the beach first) to cross the D940 after a short sandy path and fully enter the dune area. At the end, you will arrive at the river La Slack and go down the stairs underneath the D940. Alternatively, you can stay to the left of the river, continue to the beach, and then turn left back to La Pointe aux Oies. An option is also (but you will have to wade through the river at the fort of Vauban at the end) to cross the bridge, then take the path to the left along the old villas of Ambleteuse. Up to the beach, wade through La Slack, and then continue back along the coast to La Pointe aux Oies and from there return via the coastal road, the tennis courts, alongside le Jardin St.-Jean to the starting point.
