The Cretaceous cycle route winds right through the South Limburg chalk landscape. In the Meuse valley you cycle over the ancient chalk seabed, which has now become visible due to erosion by rivers and streams. Nature on the steepest slopes of the valley has been spared over the years, so you can now enjoy one of the most beautiful forests in the Netherlands, the Savelsbos.

Thousands of years ago, the limestone soil was already in demand here for the extraction of flint. Both in the Savelsbos and on the Bemelerberg you can enjoy a beautiful landscape with rare lime flora and dramatically rising limestone walls. Opencast quarry 't Rooth has now also been transformed into a species-rich nature reserve.

You can park and start at the parking lot of the Community House Bemelen (Oude Akerstraat 52, Bemelen).
