Walk in the footsteps of the pre-industrial past on the approximately 21.9 km long Bergmannsweg trail from Bad Münder to Osterwald and let the industrial history of that time come to life.Around Deister, Süntel, Nesselberg, and Osterwald, on the threshold of the North German Lowlands, there was already a productive commercial area in pre-industrial times, favored by the existing natural resources. Coal mines, sand and limestone quarries, as well as salt works, provided jobs and, due to their economic importance, were also of interest to the sovereign. A network of footpaths and cart tracks covered the region, on which goods and materials were transported, and people reached their workplaces, the mines and quarries. Today, the Bergmannsweg trail between Bad Münder and Osterwald - as part of the network Making industrial history experienceable - offers the opportunity to hike in the footsteps of the past. The trail, estimated to take around 8 hours, runs through Altenhagen, Brünnighausen, Dörpe, and Salzburg. It connects several sections that follow the historic routes. The Bergmannsweg trail is continuously marked with the miner on a yellow background. Not least because of the varied landscape and the panoramic views offered in several places, hiking on the Bergmannsweg trail between Bad Münder and Osterwald is a very special experience.
