This house having belonged to the Levasseur family in the 19th century (and probably in the 18th century) is a former private mansion. Built in the 18th century on the foundations of an older house (from the 16th century for what is still visible in some places), it is representative of the Barisian bourgeois habitat of the Age of Enlightenment
In classical style, in addition to its sober and elegant facade, it has preserved a large part of its interior layout with a layout of rooms in a row decorated with Louix XV style panelling and fireplaces. A central open staircase dating from the beginning of the 18th century but reminiscent in its stylistic archaism of the 17th century staircases can be seen.
Like many houses of the Upper Town, important cellars are developed on 2 known underground levels and a third one which has just been discovered
If many Bar-le-Duc houses are organized in depth on lanièrée plots, here this process is limited by the presence of the Saint-Etienne church located at the back. There is no second important building, even though there were stables in the past. The rear view is immediately animated by the silhouette of the church, whether in the garden or in the attic.
