LUSIGNAN, chief town of the canton south of POITIERS, welcomes you all year round to enjoy its heritage.
The castle of Lusignan, which occupied a strategic position between the 10th and 16th centuries, was destroyed at the request of King Henry III of France in the 16th century. Today, there are a few remains at the foot of the ramparts, which were buried and converted into a promenade in the 18th century.
The lords of Lusignan were at their peak, kings of CYPRUS, JERUSALEM and ARMENIA between the 12th and 14th centuries.
Of the old medieval city, we still have the fortifications of the city built in the 13th century, whose western gate with its two towers and its stone bridge has been recently updated.
