This is a tough ride. You start in Artemare and cycle towards Culoz (avoiding the main road between both places as much as possible). In Culoz, the climb of the Grand Colombier starts, offering breathtaking views (you also cycle briefly to the viewpoint which is a bit off the col road). The Grand Colombier is perhaps one of the most challenging and beautiful cols in France. Just like Mont Ventoux, you can also take on the challenge of climbing all four sides of the Grand Colombier in one day. If you succeed, you can add your name to the brotherhood of the Fêlés du Grand Colombier.

You then descend to Brenaz, where you tackle the last 7 kilometers of Col de la Biche, the smaller sister of the Grand Colombier (with similar gradients). However, the summit is located in forested areas, so you only have views along the way to and from the top.

The subsequent descent to the Rhône valley is about 20 kilometers long, with sections reaching 10% and sometimes even exceeding 11%. Via Seyssel, with its beautiful bridge over the Rhône, you cycle a stretch along the Rhône before climbing to the D991.
Later, you leave the D991 to descend again into the Rhône valley. You also cross the stream Vézéronce, which at about 400 meters from the road plunges off a rocky bowl; this waterfall is known as Pain de Sucre.

After that, it’s back to climbing to the top of Col de Richemont (also marked as Col de Richemond on some maps). This is a gentle climb compared to the previous two cols. The gradients are mild and usually do not exceed 7%. You primarily cycle through Jura meadows at first, and later mainly through the forests.

The descent to Artemare is long, about 30 km, as you sometimes remain on the plateau and descend slowly.
