Until the abolition of the Duchy of Limburg, Lincé belonged to the Limburg high court of Sprimont. Like the rest of the duchy, Lincé was incorporated into the Ourthe department, which was formed during the annexation of the Southern Netherlands by the French Republic in 1795.
